Dementholized
Peppermint Oil, form which (-) Menthol has been removed by
crystallization and which still contained 40 - 50% free menthol, can
be re-used for producing (-) menthol. The fairly large quantity of
(-) menthone contained in the oil (30 - 50%) is hydrogenated to a
mixture of mainly ( - ) menthol and ( + ) neomenthol, the menthol
esters present (mainly ( - ) menthyl are specified. |
